big story tonight. the case against rodger clemens and got underway this morning with opening statements in the district. the prosecution said they have evident, the scientific evidence the former yankee lied to congress. clemens' attorneys fired back claiming the main witness is a liar and paul wagner is here with more. >> reporter: prosecutor steven durham begin the governor's case and saying it was found on needles and cottonballs saved by clemens' former trainer brian mcnamie. needles and cottonballs that contain steroids. he didn't trust clemmens and that is why he saved them. the attorney of clemens said mcnamie manufactured the evidence and has been lying all along to save his own skin. in the opening statement to the jury, the prosecutor said the governor would call 45 witnesses, including the former yankee andy pettitte who will testify that rodger clippens told him on two occasions -- clemensel to him on two occasions he used human growth hormones. and he said the government will prove ashipment of hdh was sent to clemens' home in houston and they have the truth. on

with first degree murder. funeral services meantime for pratt are scheduled for tomorrow. >>> another big story we are following on the news edge at 11:00, a prince george's county mother charged with felony murder after leaving her child alone in a hot car for seven hours. the 2-year-old was found dead strapped in his car seat. fox 5's stacey cohan has the latest on the story. >> neighbors say that 40-year- old karen murphy, they strongly defended her. she's a married mother of three and the commonwealth attorney claims, though, this is not the first time she forgot her child in a car. murphy left her home june 17th to head to work but allegedly forgot her son was strapped in the back seat. she left work around 4 p.m. and drove home never noticing her son ryan was in the back seat. she realized her mistake when her husband called wondering why the boy was not in daycare. meantime the commonwealth attorney says murphy left the boy strapped in the family van back in january but retrieved him quickly when the daycare called her office wondering if ryan was coming in that day. >> the law pro

and a lot of people aren't, the dow and the s&p 500 had a big turn outyesterday. snapped a five-day losing streak v winning streak. sorry. >> this is what happened. the end of june was spectacular. the markets rallied all last week. you weren't here. we were talking about how markets were going up, up, up, up and up. yesterday, that camey to halt and the dow and s&p 500 finished lower. the nasdaq got that nine-point gain. there you go. that was thanks to shares of netflix. >> let's talk about something else. june jobs report is also coming out. what can we look forward to on that. >> we are expecting about 100,000 jobs to have been created in june. we'll find out what the unemployment rate is also. that is expected to stay steady at 9.1%. on big jobs weeks, it is what everybody talks about leading up to friday. we talk about it for days on end and it finally happens at 8:30 every friday morning and we'll see a big reaction in the markets based on what happens if it surprises in a good way or bad way. >> let's talk about something i to know about and movies. netflix rallied 8% to an all- ti

yesterday. but -- and we're still finding quite a lot of heat. atlanta 97, dallas 103. this has been a big story. the heat has really been so intense over about half the country. it's going to stay hot in the south and in the midwest as well, but the northern tier will get a break and we'll feel some of that as well. look at temperatures right now, 68 degrees. we've dropped to in gaithersburg, 67 dc, stephensville, 77 on the eastern shore and 74 degrees coming in at dulles. we are going to see some pretty nice air overnight for most of us. if you live south of dc, it may take just a little bit longer. tonight, we're watching the last of the moisture moving away, a little ground clutter showing up there. the main activity to the south, heavy rain and gusty winds through dc. but some of the northern suburbs didn't see what most of us saw. lots of warnings and flash flood concerns today but now the less humid air is what we're focusing on. it'll continue moving on during the overnight hours and the less humid air will be here in the morning. high pressure will build in. we'll have a bit of a

metro for you at fox 5. this morning several metro committees are meeting to discuss big changes. >> including a decision on putting the dulles station above or below ground and talking about ideas for new rail cars and possibly changing some names. sarah simmons is live at the foggy bottom station. >> reporter: there is several on the agenda for several different committees talking about different issues. one is escalators and elevators. there is a lot of complaints from riders. where we are here, they have been working on an escalator replacement program for some time. we have seen workers here this morning. part of what they will be talking about, one of the committees, a plan to increase the on time preventative maintenance because there has been a large increase in maintenance and service calls. metro is getting feedback from rider focus groups on the design of the new 7,000 series rail cars. the first ones are set to arrive next year for the silver line to dulles airport. now, along with that, they will be talking about the naming rights of the new stops on the line. there
